Video: South Africa at the Olympics – Freestyle relay team takes gold in Athens

At the 2004 Athens Olympics, the team of Roland Schoeman, Ryk Neethling, Lyndon Ferns and Darian Townsend made history by becoming the first male swimmers to win a gold medal for SA at the Olympics. Not only did they beat the highly fancied American and Australian teams but also broke the World Record with a time of 3:13.17.

These scenes will never be forgotten and is one of SA’s proudest sporting moments.

*Keep on the look out for more videos as we countdown to the Rio Olympic Games that will start on Friday 5 August.
