Potchefstroom young scientists excel

A team of 16 learners represented the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District at the Eskom Young Scientist International Science Fair from 3 to 6 October. They were competing with 600 learners from 9 provinces of South Africa and outside countries including, Brazil, Lesotho, Ghana, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique.

Highly Commended Certificates were awarded to Olebogeng Phoko (B.A. Seobi), Katlego Moatlenegi (HTS), Kekeletso Jacobs (HTS), Ozline Jacobs (Promosa Primary and Andiswa Dassie (Promosa Primary).

Bronze medals were awarded to Anica Dennis (Girls High) and Sphiwe Phetla (Boys High).

Silver medals were awarded to Zinzi Mlotswa (Girls High) and Reabetswe Maputle (Girls High).

A gold medal was awarded to Martha Djan (Girls High).

Anica Dennis also received the Hendrik van der Bijl award with a cash prize of R7 000 and Martha Djan won cash prizes to the value of R8 000, as well as a bursary from the Stellenbosch University to the value of R75 000. Martha Djan and Reabetswe Maputle were both nominated for international interviews.
