A Witrand employee and four other officials from the Department of Health in Klerksdorp are allegedly involved in defrauding the department for more than R1.2 million.

According to the R1.2 million fraud, the other officials who defrauded the department between May and November 2017 (seven months) are from Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital.
‘Four of the five officials have been issued with letters of intention to suspend and given until last Thursday to make representations to Dr Kenneth Kaunda District’s health management as to why they should not be suspended.
‘The official who works at Witrand is apparently on leave outside the province.
‘He will only receive his letter when he gets back to work and, therefore, the alleged details cannot be divulged at present. The investigations from Klerksdorp Hospital are still in progress,’ she said.
Sebake says their suspected criminal activities were detected last week and have been reported to the SAPS in Klerksdorp.
The North West Health MEC, Dr Magome Masike wishes to reassure the public that the matter will be properly investigated by the relevant state organs and decisive action will be taken against whoever may have been on the wrong side of the law.
‘The department wishes to reiterate its anti-corruption stance and warn its officials that misconduct and engaging in criminal activities will result in them being dismissed from the public service.
The department will not hesitate to do so and they also risk being imprisoned,’ he said.
