NWU fails to meet expectations at Varsity Sevens

The NWU’s sevens rugby team endured a difficult 2018 Varsity Sevens tournament this past weekend as they finished in seventh place overall.
The NWU beat the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) 24–22 in a close encounter to take the seventh place.
The NWU’s Dean Gordon scored the decisive try for the men in purple and white to end the tournament with a win.

Tuks was crowned the Varsity Sevens champions after beating 2017 champions UJ 19–14 in the final.
Earlier the NWU lost their quarter final against the University of the Western Cape (UWC) 29–22, after beating Maties 24–17 and the University of KwaZulu-Natal 24–10 in the pool stages.

The NWU seemed to be in top form in the pool stages, but a lack of concentration against UWC costs them in the end.
Some of the top players for the NWU in the tournament were Diederik Oberholzer, Eloff Scheepers and the speedy Timothy Prince.
