Businessmen’s apathy slated

20 jaar gelede

There has been dismay and concern at the apathetic and indifferent attitude displayed by many of Carletonville’s businessmen with regard to tackling the problem of rising crime. A meeting was held on Monday evening to establish a forum for businessmen to liaise with the police service. Only 8 out of the 80 businessmen who said they would be there, attended. According to Mr Wouter Scheepers, chairman of the Carletonville Community Policing Advisory Committee, the proposed forum would give businessmen a chance to discuss common problems to gather and decide on actions to be taken in an attempt to combat the staggering wave of crime recently being experienced. ‘n

The Carletonville Lions Club, in association with Carleton Wheelers Cycling Club, was planning a bumper family fun day for Sunday, 4 June. Preparations for the annual 90 km Winter Cycle Challenge were well under way and an invitation is being extended to the public to come along and enjoy all the planned festivities.

Winter was on its way and, on the previous Monday, residents had the first real feel of the chilly weather waiting around the corner. Out came all the woollies, heaters and electric blankets….and up went electricity consumption. The Carletonville Municipality has confirmed that the electricity would once again be regulated by the load control system this year. At the beginning of every month, the number of units which the town is expected to use is programmed into this system.
